ABOUT PAE

Get Back to Living on Your Terms

  • Reduce urinary frequency and urgency
  • Improve urine flow and bladder emptying
  • Sleep through the night without multiple bathroom trips
  • Avoid hospitalization and a lengthy recovery
  • Maintain sexual function by preserving prostate tissue

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) affects nearly 50% of men by age 60. The frequent urges, interrupted sleep and weak flow are real, and they add up, forcing you to plan your routine around frequent bathroom trips. Medications can help, but they don't work for everyone and often come with side effects of their own.

If you've been told surgery is your next option, there's another choice worth considering. PAE is a minimally invasive, imaging-guided procedure that offers meaningful relief without a hospital stay, general anesthesia, or weeks of recovery.

Discover PAE at Orange County Interventional Radiology Center

Don't settle for less. Get the body you want.

PAE works by reducing blood flow to the enlarged prostate through a tiny access point in the

wrist or groin. There's no cutting and no removal of tissue. Our interventional radiologists use

imaging guidance throughout the procedure to ensure precise, targeted results.

"Dr Syn was fantastic. He was patient, explained everything, in no rush to get to the next person. The staff is wonderful. Nobody wants to go the doctor, but they make it as great of an experience as possible, especially considering the sensitive of the issues. Highly recommend Dr Syn."

- Brad R.

"Dr. Syn has been amazing. He has thoroughly explained the process allowing me to make an informed decision. I went through 6 months of excruciating pain daily prior to my surgery and it all went away 3 days after surgery. Posting this one month post op and I feel great. I would highly recommend Dr. Syn."

Got Questions?We Have Answers

Does PAE work?

Yes. Clinical studies show that 70–90% of men experience significant improvement in BPH symptoms after prostate artery embolization. Many patients see better urine flow, fewer urgent bathroom trips and improved sleep within weeks.

How does PAE compare to TURP or prostate surgery?

PAE is a minimally invasive alternative to traditional prostate surgeries like TURP. Instead of removing prostate tissue, PAE reduces blood flow to the enlarged prostate, causing it to shrink over time. This approach avoids general anesthesia, hospitalization and many of the side effects associated with surgical procedures.

Am I a good candidate for PAE?

PAE is a strong option for men with confirmed BPH who have moderate to severe urinary symptoms and are looking for relief without surgery. It may be especially appropriate for men who have not responded well to medications or who want to preserve sexual function.

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure typically takes one to two hours. Because it is performed on an outpatient basis, most patients go home the same day.

What is recovery like?

Most patients experience mild discomfort for a few days following the procedure and are able to return to light activities within a short time. There is no large incision to heal and no hospital stay required. Your care team will provide detailed aftercare instructions tailored to you.

Will my insurance cover PAE?

Coverage varies by plan and provider. Our team will help you understand your insurance options and navigate prior authorization requirements during the consultation process.
